Dr. Sushabhan Sadhukhan
Associate Professor

We are an interdisciplinary research group at IIT Palakkad in the Department of Chemistry with secondary affiliation to the Department of Biological Sciences & Engineering. Our research integrates organic synthesis, chemical proteomics, and enzymology to investigate the chemistry and biology of natural products. Our research group is broadly focused on developing innovative therapeutic strategies to address major health challenges, including infectious diseases, cancer, and diabetes. By combining expertise in natural product chemistry, synthetic design, nanotechnology, and multi-omics, we aim to create next-generation antimicrobial agents, molecular therapeutics, and diagnostic platforms. On a separate note, our lab is also interested in deciphering the role of various protein post-translational modifications (PTMs) in physiological and pathological conditions using the chemical biology toolbox. Our multidisciplinary approach bridges fundamental research and translational applications. We believe that by studying the mechanism of action of bioactive natural products and strategically modifying their structures, we can unlock their full potential for translational applications.

Our key research areas include:

  • Design and synthesis of natural product-based therapeutics for antibacterial and antidiabetic applications

  • Chemo-proteomics approaches for drug-target interactions

  • Exploration of protein PTMs and their enzymatic regulators for therapeutic insights

  • Natural product-based nanomaterials for healthcare applications and sensing technologies.
